Quite often, I find that the SE version makes a much better game, but I feel this is geared more to a true beginner. Yes, I understand that these stories are loosely based upon Edgar Allan Poe's original poems and stories, but these loose interpretations don't translate well as a game. There's a fire because there's always a fire in every Amax Interactive game and the Fire Extinguisher is not only located in an odd place, inside a locked cage but also secured to the cage with 3 more locks! Join forces with Auguste Dupin to solve another case. The gameplay is monotonous, the tasks are painstakingly boring, the storyline drags and there are hundreds of uninteresting diary pages and notes to read, after a chapter or two, you just want it to end, there's certainly nothing to keep you on the edge of your seat. Although I do think this is a wonderful game, please try the demo to see if you will enjoy this game as well. The story might be slightly more interesting this time around, Speakinv it still Keys to Manhattan from shallow, Cart Cow characters and predictable development. This game is a perfect example of why the Dark Tales series Royal Envoy Collectors Edition run its course. There are some extremely easy puzzles as well as a few difficult ones. The 3 Keys to unlock the fire extinguisher are bound with 3 separate Chains! Instead of time-consuming HOP scenes, this game has many mini-HOP scenes which help maintain a good pace within the game. That said, I sometimes had trouble with the logic of the story. Now, as a juror in the trial, Dupin is a target as well. Choice between Casual and Hard. Play on! In this case, I am not sure if witth is actually a positive considering what a drag the game is.
Although I must admit that the game does get significantly more exciting during its second half. There are some wonderful puzzles and fantastic HOP scenes within this game. The HOPs were fine; the feathers were easy to find. This was a predictable, simple story that moved slowly and had very little action or adventure. Choice between Casual and Hard. You are also able to select the custom mode which allows the player to change the hint recharge time as well as the skip time. The graphics are nice and colors aren't too bad, although a bit muted, which makes the graphics seem a little fuzzy. Join forces with Auguste Dupin to solve another case. If you make a mistake, the cards will move to other locations. Can you solve the mystery behind this supernatural case before more people go missing?
